KARL MARX WAS COVERED WITH CARBUNCLES AND BOILS
78We know he was covered with carbuncles and furuncles and boils because he complained about them in letters.
He was 46 when he first began to complain. They were painful, and large, and at times a doctor had to lance one and drain it. In describing one such operation, he said the size of the boil was as big as his wife's fist.
A study of online sites about carbuncles and furuncles gives the most probable cause of his ailment.
Poverty.
Four of his children died from the poverty they lived in. Mainly from starvation, which left them vulnerable to other infections.
Poor nutrition and poor hygiene are both factors in developing carbuncles and furuncles.
At times, Marx wrote he was covered head to toe in the eruptions. He also wrote about having them on his backside and his most private parts.
Once they began, it seems he suffered from them for the rest of his life, at some times more painfully than others.
Some doctors, long after his death, determined he was suffering from Hidradenitis Suppurativa, a disease of the sweat glands found in the armpits and groin.
After reading about that disease, it seems unlikely. His outbreaks were much more extensive than that. From head to toe.
It was reported he was still covered with furuncles, carbuncles and boils when he died.
Karl Marx did not die a famous or admired man. In fact, there were only eleven mourners at his funeral. One daughter, Eleanor. Two sons-in-law, Charles Longuet and Paul Lafargue. And eight friends: Leonard Church, Friedrich Engels, Ray Lankester, Friedrich Lessner, G.Lochner, Wilhelm Liebknecht, Sir John Noe and Carl Schorlemmer.
Years earlier, when his own mother had died, Marx wrote to tell his friend Engel about it, saying, in so many words, better her than me. Then he went on to write about collecting his inheritance.
Karl Marx enjoyed receiving inheritances. When his wife's uncle died, he wrote to tell Engels, saying, 'yesterday we were informed of a very happy event, the death of my wife's uncle, aged ninety'. He knew his wife would inherit some money from this uncle.
Karl Marx is so yesterday. If today's Marxists actually read his writings, they'd go find some other 'ism' to latch on to.
Here's just one example of the mind of Marx, something he wrote about Ferdinand Lasalle in still another letter to Engels.
"Now this blend of Jewishness and Germanness, on the one hand, and basic negroid stock on the other, must invariably give rise to a peculiar product. The fellow's importunity is also niggerlike".
Would someone please inform the President of this statement before he hangs Karl Marx on his Christmas tree again.
Marx was born to Jewish parents, but they converted to Christianity and had him baptized when he was six years old. It didn't take. He considered himself an athiest, though the rest of the world has always considered him an ordinary Communist anti-Semite.
Paul Lafargue, married to Marx' daughter, was an admirer of Marx and a revolutionary. He wrote a popular pamphlet titled: The Right to be Lazy.
He understood.
Maybe the pamphlet was a justification for Karl Marx life.
From each according to his ability - Engels was a wealthy man...
To each according to his need - Engels sent money to support Marx and his family so Marx wouldn't have to get a job.
Marx believed that Capitalism must be overthrown for Socialism, and with Socialism would come a 'Dictatorship of the proletariot'. After that would be Communisn, a classless society where everyone and everything is equal.
Bring it on! We all get to do only what we want to do, with the right to be lazy.
Just answer one question: Who will collect the garbage?

Great hub. I didn't know nearly all of those facts about Marx. I agree with American Romance's comment as well.
yeah. very lazy.
Lots of lazy people like to have a philosophy for getting someone else's money.
Good work Sheila. I was completely unaware of anything about Marx except his love for communism. I don't think Barry would care anyway, if you hate capitalism, Barry likes you!!
We were suppossed to read parts of his "Manifesto" while in school, but I can't remember anything about it, except that was more about economics rather than politics
Excellent Hub Sheila!! Very informative, I didn't know those things about Marx. Thank you for sharing some very interesting facts.
The hippies in the sixties tried the classless approach in communes. In most cases< I think, not much got done.
It is great to know about Marx.
Very interesting hub about a a man many in our country seem to admire boils and all.
Thank you for this excellent and very eye opening, maybe we should sent a Marx Christmas Tree ornaments to the white house sometime around November so they can delight in looking at them just a while longer, boils and all....
Wow. Very interesting article. Who would have thought.
lol, "The Right to be Lazy" , lol.
Very informative and educational indeed. I learned something today. Actually kind of makes sense, seeing how policy is being made "round here".
I see the boils as metaphorical as well as physical. Great info about Marx - a real racist!
I too knew very few of these facts about Karl Marx. Most all of the liberal heroes were vile human beings once we peel back the layers of their lauded facade. I agree with habee's interesting insight - the boils were ab ironic metaphor for the life of this man and the legacy he left.
You are some writer!!!
his illness was called Hidradenitis Suppurativa. And why the hell is everyone on this site so anti-communism. Its not like our living version of democracy is any better? and capitalism is a proven bunk theory so...why trash a scholar that accomplished more in his pain-ridden life than you all will in your mundane ones?
As a history buff this is good stuff. Enjoyed it.
Sheila b.- It figures that the one responsible for socialist principles would himself embody its characteristics. He was lazy ,selfish, bitter and had an attitude of entitlement. But if he were around today and had witnessed the failure of socialism and communism and witnessed the success of the free market in America, even he might come to his senses and embrace free enterprise capitalism.- Regards-WBA
It's interesting that so many of the people commenting here freely admit to never, with any sincerity, studying Marxism. What a shame. Imbeciles simply believing whatever it is they read on a conservative blog.

Excellent write! Liberals always want to put the worthless on a pedestal! We the People have them on the ropes! They are walking dead! Obama is trying hard to legalize 20 million illegals in hopes of getting their votes, but America is beginning to wake from a deep slumber and the country will change! Keep up the great work!
