The mosque will open. That has been approved, much to the dismay of many New Yorkers and probably to the dismay of most Americans.
The building where the mosque will welcome the faithful to prayer was damaged by the fuselage of one of the jets which was flown into the Twin Towers on 9/11. That's how close it is to Ground Zero. A short two blocks.
Cordoba House is bankrolling the 13-story mosque and Islamic Cultural Center.
Cordoba House is associated with CAIR, the Council on American Islamic Relations.
On the website for Cordoba Initiative, the banner on the top proclaims 'Improving Muslim - West Relations'.
Reading on: "...aims to achieve a tipping point in Muslim - West relations within the next decade..."

CAIR, on their web site, "seeks to empower the American Muslim community by encouraging Muslims to become activists in social and political groups".

Cordoba House took its name from Cordoba, Spain. In the Middle Ages, Cordoba was the capital of an Islamic Caliphate.
Muslims think of that as the Golden Age of Islam. Christians, Jews and Muslims lived together in Cordoba. But not in any sort of equality. The Christians and Jews had to acknowledge Islamic superiority. They had to wear badges identifying themselves as Christians or Jews. They could not give evidence in a court of law. They could not intermarry with Muslims. They were restricted to where they could live, build churches and synagogues, and every aspect of their lives was regulated by Islamic Law.
A spokesperson for Cordoba House said they want to provide an opportunity to educate the American people about Islam.
The one-hundred-million-dollar mosque and Islamic Cultural Center will house a swimming pool, a basketball court, a 500-seat auditorium, classrooms and offices. The public will be invited to enjoy the facilities.
Might this Islamic Cultural Center be a recruiting center?
A spokesperson for Cordoba House explained they want to combat misunderstandings about Islam.
Many New Yorkers believe they understand quite well. They see this mosque just 2 blocks from Ground Zero as an aggressive, in-your-face determination by Muslims to downplay the role of the Muslim terrorists on 9/11.
People on the street are saying, "They know they're offending us. They want to offend us".
"They are showing they have no respect for the people who died on 9/11".
"I saw a Muslim on TV last week talking about how Americans have to be sensitive to Muslim feelings. Show me how this is sensitive to Americans' feelings!"
"This is as close as they can get to Ground Zero", one man explained. "If they could build this mosque right on the site of the Twin Towers, they would".
That statement brought to mind how the Dome of the Rock was built on the site of the second Jewish temple. Inside the Dome of the Rock is the Foundation Stone, an actual stone, which Jews believe marks the holiest place on earth, the place where the Holy of Holies once stood. Within the Holy of Holies was the Ark of the Covenant, and within the Ark were the 10 Commandments.
Islam claimed the site for themselves and built the Dome.
For that matter, Islam also took the Old Testament and the New Testament and Jesus for themselves.
"This is a bold show of their sense of superiority", another New Yorker against the Ground Zero mosque declared.
Ground Zero is the site where the World Trade Center once stood above the New York City skyline. Thousands died there at the hands of Muslim terrorists. 9/11 was the day our hearts broke and our eyes were opened to the threat of Islamic terrorists.
And now there will be a 13-story mosque nearby, where people who sympathize with the poor misunderstood peace-loving terrorists can learn all about Islam and how the world has not treated them right just because they want to impose Islam on everyone.
Who thinks they'll have 9/11 Truther propaganda displayed prominently?
And whether they really will have their grand opening on 9/11/11 remains to be seen.

This is crazy is it not ? What the hell is going on in our Country ? I hope they fail to get the funding. And from what I have read there are gonna is going to be some litigation in opposition to this. As far as the NYC city council goes , they can screw themselves !

They have no desire for us to get more in touch with their feelings. People who shove crap down your throat don't care about feelings. They have semantics problems in the translation. They meant to say "needs". This influx and the actions such as this will do more to drive America back into the dark ages of race relations than anything that I can think of. At the same time, these folks, the smarter ones anyway, are counting on our ignorance and our political correctness to save the day. America is an amazing place where a native-born skilled lawyer can be financially enticed to find every loophole in the system to accomodate the needs of his foreign contractors. At the same time, he calls himself a patriotic American just "tryin' to make a living". Counter that with a bunch of native-born government employed, poorly paid lawyers who cannot find their ass with both hands and they too are patriotic Americans. It makes me sick. One group lines their pockets at the expense of American citizens and the other can't find the motivation to counter the argument because they don't get paid enough in the public sector. As a result we have this structure at ground zero in America. What a pitiful, pitiful shame. What a spit in the face of every red-blooded American who died there. If these people had any compassion for America or humanity in general, they would have done the noble thing and walked away. Shame on us.
Sheila, Building a mosque at that location is horrendous. Why would the city council or whoever gives out building permits allow this to happen? It is a slap in the face to those New Yorkers who lost family and friends on 9/11. This is a very good hub. Rated up!

This strikes me as appalling insensitivity-it is after all a burial site quite apart from anything else.

Legally i don't think there is a dam thing we can do about it... maybe some legal genius in NYC could find a 150 yr old statute to block This abomination. But most likely it will only be delayed through appeals and legal proceedings. It would be a shame if the Union brothers happen to take longer building it and there were a;ot of "unexpected delays" costin an enormous amount of overtime or maybe some "unfortunate accidents" that delayed work and cost additional funds. Allah beware if non-union workers are used

I don't even comprehend how only ONE person on the board voted against this travesty. I am so tired of being told how intolerant WE are as a nation. This is WRONG, DISRESPECTFUL, RUDE, SICKENING!!! I think we should start a drive to pay for the construction of a Christian church/synagogue in Mecca. Try that and see how tolerant these horrible muslims really are!!

The 9/11 Truth Movement are the people who want to, by definition, FIND THE FULL TRUTH ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED, many of them lost their wives or husbands in those buildings. The fact that they are suspicious (because Bush was warned several dozen times before 9/11 that a large terrorist attack was coming on U.S. soil and did nothing) does NOT in any way mean they were for Islamic terorists, obviously just the opposite is true. Why slander people for simply wanting to know the full truth? The 9/11 Truth people I know don't want the damn mosque there, just as most New Yorkers don't want it there.

That's right...whenever someone or some group in this country does something that offends someone's political or ethnocentric sensitivities, trot out the fear card! Goddamn, how many of you even LIVE in NYC? The average New Yorker doesn't give a crap about this because:
a) they are not racist xenophobes who fail to realise that Islam did not attack the US, but a bunch of crazy extremist Islam-fueled nuts did
b) the site of the mosque is something like a mile away from where ground zero was, and is in an already vacant and unused building that is just sitting there
c) there is already a mosque closer to ground zero than this one!
This is just political propaganda. It's a mosque people. Who. The hell. Cares. Muslim-Americans were also killed in the attacks you know. Are we not all equal? Is Christianity the only religion that can be honored within a 100 mile radius of the WTC site?

I can't wait to got to visit the mosque prayer room. I just bought a new pair of Frye boots. My size 8 boots should fit just right up their east bowing asxes in memeory of my best friend. We grew up in west Texas, but she dreamed of getting a job in New York. She got a great job working in the most amazing building three days before 9/11 She called me and we prayed together,but her mother's phone was busy. She asked me to call her mother and pray with her. Amy was 22 years old. She loved God, family, friends, and New York. She died without speaking to her mother.Amy and i SHARED THE lORD'S PRAYER one last time on that precious day in September. Amy's family is sick about the mosque. Me? I think Amy would like my new boots!
I dont understand one thing. What if Christians and Catholics hit those two towers, at that point we cant let Churches be built anywhere close to ground zero and etc. Those terrorist that hit those twin towers happen to be Muslims and thats it. Not every Muslim is a terrorist if they were, USA would have been heavily attacked long time ago.

I recently read somewhere about what Muslims are really doing. They are populating the Earth at an alarming rate and will, in years to come, become the majority. They are going about this quietly and infiltrating countries they have never entered before. What this means: Americans need to have say, 2.4 children to keep up the population and majority. We are not doing that. No country, right now, is full-filling their quota. By the Muslims spreading out and having many children they will, as I previously stated, become the majority in years to come. Seems they're smarter than we are!

first of all this mosque away from ground zero
Dave, you are a moron. I live in NYC, a block from the future site of the Ground Zero (Cordoba) Mosque. Many, many people in NYC care about this mosque, Dave because it was petitioned for illegally by people with histories of insurance fraud, tax evasion and slum lording. The former owner of the Burlington Coat Factory, where it will be built, was lied to and told that a luxury condo would be built on the site. As soon as it was built it operated illegally as a mosque. It had no permit but people would sneack in and out of it. Imam Rauf first purchased a mosque several blocks down the street - he caused all sorts of trouble by trying to get the liquor licenses of bars and restaurants who long predated his mosque's existence pulled. He prevented one establishment from opening at all, then vanished in the night. The mosque was suddenly gone, only to open at the Burlington Coat Factory site.
Now for your allegations, one by one:
a. People in the neighborhood very much care about having the mosque there and DO NOT WANT IT. There are no Muslims in this neighborhood. It is funded by CAIR and Saudi Arabia, and the Imam went on a fund-raising tour throughout the middle east for it funded by U.S. State Department money(read: American Taxes). Imam Rauf has made public speeches saying it was Jews who flew the planes into the world trade center.
b. The Mosque is NOT one mile from Ground Zero, it is AT ground zero! The fuselage from one of the planes that hit the World Trade Center fell through the roof of this building and was impaled in the basement floor. Yet the NY Historical Society refused to grant it landmark status. Otherwise, it is a very short block from the World Trade Center and it can be seen from the front of the mosque. There will be a deck with a viewing area so that the Moslem faithful can look down upon the entire World Trade Center site.
C. There is no mosque closer than this one to the World Trade Center - this is within a stone's throw - how much closer could it get? St. Peter's parish, the Catholic Church which was actually on the world Trade Center site was refused a permit to rebuild there though. Catholics out, Muslims in, I guess.
And no, to your question, this is not just political propaganda and we are not all equal. Those who want to live in peace and support their neighbors and uphold their laws are welcome anywhere in America. Those who try to force 7th century legal systems (Sharia), and say things to our Jewish neighbors like "we've got the gas chambers ready for you" are NOT welcome. Not anywhere that sane people live.

Why do people really give a damn about this mosque? Why can't it have the right to be built anywhere? Em... if anyone read the Koran you'd understand it's not a religion of peace "Kill the unbelievers, whenever you see them whenever you find them".
